River Symbols

Fostering a culture of water through the perspective of children and their connection with the rivers and tributaries of their community.

The artworks in this exhibition are preserved using natural leaves that were exposed to sunlight to “print” their symbols. This process respects and honors ecosystems and their entities.

These works were created by children participating in the Samayuio Children’s Art Workshop between 2023 and 2024. Their goal is to enrich the collective imagination of what “the river” means.

Through images that emerge directly from each participant’s thoughts and emotions, the concept of the river gains the ability to flow, transform, and invite conscious presence. This allows us to foster a genuine culture around water and rivers, while also restoring an emotional connection with tributaries and their ecosystems.

In this way, we promote care for natural entities rooted in individual identity tied to the territory and a deep sense of love for the planet.

The process used to create these symbols is called Chlorotyping, which mirrors the natural process of photosynthesis. Each leaf, being naturally photosensitive, can produce images through exposure to sunlight. The workshop is developed under the methodology of its creator, drawing from her expertise in photographic experimentation. To learn more about this methodology, please visit here.
